1989 Recommendation for progression into Grade One from my Reception teacher Mrs Wilson. I was four years old.
Spring: “Noelle has moved into the second term with confidence. She is excited about reading and puts a great deal of effort into this area. Her neatness in general still needs some improvement. She must learn to slow down and not rush through her work. Noelle is a good listener despite the fact that she does a lot of talking. She handles responsibility reasonably well and usually caries out her tasks in a satisfactory manner. She is an avid participant in all areas and likes to be in charge.
Her verbal expression is very good. Her fine motor skills still need a little more time. Her cutting is a bit rushed. She knows all the phonetic sounds taught so far but gets confused with b & d. she knows her numbers and values tested up to 10 and all her colours.
Summer: “Noelle has been a very active participant in all areas of this year’s curriculum. At times it has been difficult to keep up with her energy and enthusiasm. She throws herself into whatever she does with great zeal. Her reading has progressed rapidly and her knowledge of number work is very good. She can count up to 30 and understands numbers in relation to specific values. Her fine motor skills have developed nicely and her cutting has improved. She still tends to rush her work a little.
Noelle’s ability to verbalize is very good except when confronted with a large group. She becomes timid and shy when she has the attention of the whole class. Noelle longs for acceptance and love from the older children and it has been a very hard lesson for her to learn that not everybody will like you or want to be your friend all of the time. Despite her young age I feel that Noelle is quite ready to move into grade one. It was a pleasure having Noelle in my class. Good luck next year!”
The more things change the more they remain the same.
