Four points on the compass, Esu-Elegba gate keeps. At the hands of the orisha, the monotony of triumph turns to chaos, and I am brought to my knees. Thunder and lightening, Shango illuminates the way. In the midst of my storm, surrounded by light, I can see.
Once upon a time, there was a woman who was stuck in a valley, surrounded by darkness. She navigated through the darkness as best as she could, using the greatest powers of her intellect to guide her steps. She was unaware, but she walked along a path to self destruction.
The Master of Choice, Chance, and Change, working in her favour, offered a gift of transformation. This Guardian of Good and Evil brought her to an unfathomable crossroads: one road led to a steep rock face with an inverted slope, the other to a tumbling, torrential waterfall. Only one direction would lead to good fortune.
She closed her eyes to contemplate which direction to take, and a surprising light began to pierce the curtains of her eyelids. In the distant sky she heard a loud, crackling scream like the clapping of thunder. Her heart pounded so strong, the beat leapt from her body and joined an orchestra of drums.
A powerfully illuminating light revealed to her a vision of her true identity. It shone into the inner crevices of her being, causing the fragments of her imagination to be pieced together. She was overcome by an awareness of her self-destructive attitudes and behaviour. She saw beyond the pretense of her illusionary life.
Along with this gift of illumination, the Master of Courage, Boldness and Fortitude, filled the woman with inspiration and passion for the journey she was about to make. She became self-motivated, enthused about embracing her higher self. Free of fear she stepped boldly into her true destiny.
Iba se Esu-Elegba. Iba se Shango.
